Comprehensive GP Consultation Types in Googong

At Googong Family Practice, we understand that no two patients are the same. That’s why we offer a wide range of GP consultation types to suit every stage of life and every medical need. Whether you're visiting us for a quick script, a comprehensive health assessment, or a mental health care plan, our team of GPs and nurses are here to provide compassionate, patient-centred care.

Here’s an overview of the appointment types available at our clinic:

New Patients – 30 minutes

First-time patients are scheduled for a 30-minute consultation. This longer session allows your GP and nurse to collect a detailed medical history, discuss any current health concerns, and begin a personalised care plan moving forward.

Long Appointments – Up to 30 minutes

If you have multiple concerns, require a care plan, or have a more complex health issue, we recommend booking a long consultation. This provides extra time for your GP to investigate, explain, and address your needs thoroughly.

Mental Health Appointments – 20 minutes

Our GPs offer confidential and supportive mental health consultations. If you're seeking a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) for referral to a psychologist, this may require blood tests and a follow-up visit to meet Medicare requirements. Speak with your GP about what’s involved.

Travel Medicine Advice – 15+ minutes

Planning overseas travel? Our GPs can provide up-to-date vaccination advice and preventative health planning. Allow extra time for family bookings or complex itineraries.

Health Assessments & Care Plans – 45 to 60 minutes

Includes GP Management Plans, Team Care Arrangements, and Health Assessments for eligible patients. A nurse will begin by updating your history and performing assessments. You’ll then see your GP for review. These are bulk billed for all qualifying patients under Medicare.

Workers Compensation & Third Party Injuries – 30 minutes

These initial appointments require additional time due to paperwork and documentation. Please let reception know in advance if your visit relates to a workplace or motor vehicle injury.

Standard Appointments – 15 minutes

Ideal for addressing one or two simple concerns such as minor illnesses, prescription refills, or follow-ups. This is our most common appointment type.

Skin Checks – 15 to 30 minutes

We provide full skin checks, often taking 15 minutes but extending up to 30 minutes depending on how many moles or lesions need to be examined. Early detection of skin cancer is crucial, and regular checks are encouraged.

Test Results, Scripts & Referrals – 15 minutes

Simple follow-ups such as receiving test results, repeat prescriptions, or specialist referrals can typically be handled in a standard 15-minute consultation.

Antenatal Care – 30 minutes

Initial pregnancy appointments include a thorough assessment to ensure both mother and baby are on track. Follow-up care is scheduled based on your stage of pregnancy and individual needs.

Procedures – Time varies

Procedures such as mole removal, skin lesion treatment or wound care vary in length. An initial consult is required to assess the condition and plan the appropriate procedure.

Fees & Medicare Information

Regardless of the type or length of your consultation, out-of-pocket costs remain the same (link to fees page when built) for standard appointments. We offer on-site Medicare claiming and accept most payment types.
